Jury Verdict for Cigarette Manufacturer Liggett Group
After a three-week trial, a Fort Lauderdale, Florida jury decided in favor of Kasowitz client Liggett Group LLC and three other tobacco company defendants. The jury in Rohr v. R.J. Reynolds, et al. found Liggett and the other defendants zero percent responsible for the death of a man who allegedly smoked their products. The verdict came in an “Engle progeny" case, following a 2006 Florida Supreme Court decision that decertified the class in Engle v. Liggett Group, Inc., but allowed former class members to file individual lawsuits and rely on general findings from the original class action.
