Kasowitz Obtains Asylum on Behalf of Abused Salvadoran Child

Kasowitz has obtained asylum on behalf of an 11-year-old female who had been subjected to repeated persecution in El Salvador, which included severe physical and emotional abuse from the extended family with whom she was living, and the murders of multiple family members by the Mara Salvatrucha gang. Kasowitz demonstrated that the client had been persecuted on account of her status as a Salvadoran child without effective familial protection, and the fact that her family was being targeted by the gang. The Kasowitz team further demonstrated that the client would face continued severe abuse or death if forced to return to El Salvador.

This pro bono matter was handled by associate Rachel M. Jacobson, under the supervision of Counsel Teresa Matushaj.
