Kasowitz Lends a Hand to Local Soup Kitchen

Throughout 2017, Kasowitz lawyers and staff have been regularly providing assistance to the Soup Kitchen at St. Luke’s, located near Times Square, New York City. The Soup Kitchen at St. Luke’s provides vital services to New York’s homeless, working poor and elderly populations.  Every Tuesday and Thursday during lunchtime, the Soup Kitchen serves a hot meal to 120 to 160 people.

The Soup Kitchen at St. Luke’s is subsidized significantly by the charity United Way, and 15% of United Way’s funds are spent on fruits and vegetables. The Soup Kitchen at St. Luke’s also receives donations, both cash and food, from neighbors on Restaurant Row, a local street with numerous restaurants, through City Harvest, a charitable organization that redistributes leftover food from local restaurants, and from other local businesses, including Kasowitz.

Members of St. Luke’s congregation, local office workers, and out-of-town youth groups volunteer to staff the lunchtime at The Soup Kitchen at St. Luke’s.  Kasowitz lawyers and staff have regularly volunteered their time during the year to serve lunch at the Soup Kitchen at St. Luke’s, as part of the firm’s pro bono program and strong commitment to serving our community.
