Kasowitz and Attorneys Receive Legal Aid Society 2023 Pro Bono Publico Awards
The Legal Aid Society has honored Kasowitz Benson Torres and two teams of attorneys with 2023 Pro Bono Publico Awards in recognition of outstanding achievements in rendering pro bono services for low-income New Yorkers.
- The firm was honored in recognition of its outstanding pro bono support to The Legal Aid Society juvenile rights practice. Kasowitz partners David J. Abrams, Chair of Kasowitz’s Pro Bono Committee, David E. Ross and Stephen P. Thomasch were individually honored for their amicus curiae brief on behalf of The Legal Aid Society and several children’s rights organizations that helped secure an important recent decision by the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Second Circuit remanding a district court decision denying certification of a class of children seeking systemic reforms to the foster care system in New York City. - Kasowitz partner Jonathan E. Algor, and associates Jonah M. Block and Aishling Fitzpatrick, were honored for securing a highly favorable settlement on behalf of a pro bono client of federal human trafficking and New York Labor Law claims against a New York-based homeopathic medicine company and its proprietors.
