Kasowitz Benson Torres LLP recently partnered with New York Life Insurance Company to provide pro bono legal services during an asylum clinic sponsored by Sanctuary for Families for its immigrant clients who are survivors of domestic violence, sex trafficking and related forms of gender violence and are seeking asylum in the U.S. During the clinic, fifteen Kasowitz attorneys and fifteen New York Life attorneys volunteered in teams to assist the survivors in understanding the asylum process and completing their applications for asylum to escape further persecution and violence in their home countries. A group of Kasowitz staff attorneys and paralegals also participated in the clinic as translators.
Sanctuary for Families is a New York State-based nonprofit dedicated to serving survivors of domestic violence, sex trafficking, and related forms of gender violence, and their children. Every year, Sanctuary empowers more than 8,000 adults and children to move from fear and abuse to safety and stability, transforming lives through legal and clinical services, economic empowerment, and shelter.
Kasowitz recognizes the importance of providing pro bono services to disadvantaged individuals and organizations unable to afford quality legal representation. We encourage our attorneys at all levels to handle pro bono and other public service matters. Learn more about Kasowitz’s Pro Bono Program.
