Latino Leaders Magazine Recognizes Kim Conroy and Melissa A. Barahona as Leading Latino Lawyers
Latino Leaders Magazine has recognized Kasowitz Benson Torres partner Kim Conroy as a 2021 Top Latino Lawyer and associate Melissa A. Barahona as a 2021 Latino Lawyer to Keep on the Watch. The annual lists honor attorneys nationwide who are leading practitioners or rising stars in their field and leaders in the Latino community.
Kim Conroy
Kim Conroy, partner at Kasowitz Benson Torres, represents investment firms and hedge funds, financial institutions, corporations and high-net-worth individuals in securities, fraud, and business disputes. Among other actions, Kim is a key member of the Kasowitz team that secured a pathbreaking preliminary injunction for Alaskan Reefer Management and Kloosterboer International Forwarding, shippers of frozen fish from Alaska, that enjoined the U.S. government from assessing penalties for alleged Jones Act violations while the legality of already assessed penalties is adjudicated. Kim also serves on the board of directors for Directions For Our Youth, a nonprofit organization providing quality programing for young people enrolled in grades K-12 in underserved areas of New York City.
Melissa A. Barahona
Melissa A. Barahona, associate at Kasowitz Benson Torres, represents clients in employment-related litigation and high-stakes commercial disputes. She was a key member of the Kasowitz team that represented Douglas Elliman in a three-week jury trial that resulted in a $3.8 million jury verdict, including $2.5 million in punitive damages. Ms. Barahona also co-led the Kasowitz team that secured permanent residency status in the United States for a gay woman who fled her home country of Ghana because she feared persecution and abuse there due to her sexual orientation.
