Stephen W. Tountas Named Plaintiffs’ Lawyers Trailblazer by The National Law Journal
The National Law Journal has named Kasowitz Benson Torres partner Stephen W. Tountas a Plaintiffs’ Lawyers Trailblazer in recognition of his pioneering work as a securities lawyer.
Mr. Tountas is one of the nation’s top plaintiff-side securities litigators. He has pioneered industry-leading strategies that have been adopted by his competitors and has recovered billions of dollars in high-profile class actions and opt-out actions on behalf of leading hedge funds, mutual funds, and public pension funds. Some of his noteworthy cases include successfully leading the prosecution of an industry-leading opt-out action arising from Adeptus Health’s multi-billion dollar bankruptcy on behalf of one of Adeptus Health’s largest equity investors. Mr. Tountas also engineered a landmark legal strategy for a public pension fund that filed a highly publicized direct action against Valeant Pharmaceuticals in which he asserted claims under the NJ RICO act and defeated Valeant’s motion to dismiss.
