Teresa Matushaj's practice focuses primarily on the fields of legal ethics, professional responsibility, cybersecurity and e-discovery.
Teresa oversees the Professional Development and Diversity team, and manages the firm's staff attorneys and paralegals. She also oversees the firm's physical and electronic library holdings and online research tools, including Westlaw, Lexis and Bloomberg Law.
Teresa serves as Deputy Chair of the firm's Pro Bono Committee. She arranges for a variety of pro bono opportunities for firm attorneys, works closely with public interest organizations that refer matters to the firm, implements the firm’s pro bono policies and supervises firm attorneys on a wide variety of pro bono matters.
Work Highlights
- The reunification of the Darfuri refugee family of Mr. Motasim Adam, Ms. Wejdan Saleh and their daughter, four-year-old Wesal Adam.
- Federal Housing Finance Agency, as conservator for Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac, in actions in federal and state courts against numerous financial institutions and individuals. The lawsuits sought rescission or damages from the banks for, among other things, their misrepresentations concerning pools of mortgage loans that underlie residential mortgage-backed securities the banks issued, securitized and sold to Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac. After prevailing on critical pre-trial issues, FHFA settled the actions brought by Kasowitz for over $2 billion, including a $1.25 billion settlement with Morgan Stanley.
- Adelphia Recovery Trust in a multi-billion dollar lawsuit against several hundred financial institutions, including the largest banks in the United States, for, among other things, intentional and constructive fraudulent conveyances, fraud, equitable subordination, equitable disallowance, and aiding and abetting fraud and breach of fiduciary duty.
