Law360 Recognizes Kasowitz Partners Stephen W. Tountas and Douglas B. Heitner as 2017 Rising Stars

Kasowitz partners Stephen W. Tountas and Douglas B. Heitner have been named 2017 Rising Stars by Law360 in the Class Action and Real Estate categories, respectively. The Rising Stars listing recognizes lawyers under the age of 40 whose legal accomplishments belie their age. Mr. Tountas and Mr. Heitner are two out of a small number of lawyers named to the list after Law360 evaluated over 1,200 lawyers. This is Mr. Tountas’ first time and Mr. Heitner’s fourth time appearing on the Rising Stars list.

Steve Tountas is a trial lawyer who prosecutes and defends complex securities, antitrust and commercial disputes on behalf of leading hedge funds, mutual funds and public pension funds. He has secured billions of dollars in recoveries for stakeholders of public companies, and has been at the forefront of prosecuting several of the largest securities class actions and related opt-out actions in recent history. In addition to his active litigation practice, Steve develops potential cases for his clients and provides strategic advice regarding the relative merits of litigating on a direct or class-wide basis. He currently represents a group of stakeholders in a direct action against SunEdison’s officers and directors, and is defending a putative securities class action against Eros International.

Doug Heitner represents some of the largest real estate players in the U.S., including JDS Development, The Related Companies, New Valley, The Witkoff Group, Africa-Israel, and Madison Realty Capital, in some of the biggest transactions in New York City involving joint ventures, financings, investment acquisitions, developments, leasing, and public/private projects. He currently represents the joint venture of The Witkoff Group and New Valley in the acquisition and financing of the Times Square Gateway Center at 701 Seventh Avenue in Manhattan, considered the most significant development project in Times Square currently underway.
