The National Law Journal Names Jonathan Waldrop as Intellectual Property Trailblazer

The National Law Journal has named partner Jonathan K. Waldrop an “Intellectual Property Trailblazer.” Mr. Waldrop, Chair of Kasowitz’s Intellectual Property group, handles patent litigation for industry-leading companies including Google, Samsung, LG, Adobe and Intellectual Ventures.  He has extensive experience trying intellectual property cases as lead trial counsel.  His representation of Fintiv against Apple led to the creation of the “Fintiv Rule,” which was hailed as one of the most important patent decisions in recent years.  The “Fintiv Rule” has had a dramatic impact on patent litigation, which has resulted in numerous cases proceeding directly to trial.  In 2022, Mr. Waldrop defeated five writs of mandamus to the Federal Circuit that sought to transfer patent cases out of the Western District of Texas;  these rulings have provided important guidance on jurisdiction, venue and service of process in patent cases.

The “Trailblazers” series honors individuals who have advanced their legal practice areas through the use of innovative strategies. The “Intellectual Property” list celebrates just 23 lawyers throughout the country for their exemplary achievements.
